Summer Camp Program
Up to 70 children enjoy the full-day summer program of tutoring, enrichment and recreation at the Dowd Education Center. The Columbus Zoo, Thurber House, and Ohio Children’s Theater are a few of our partners who bring their programs to the summer program. Field trips to local swimming pools, parks and museums bring relief from the summer heat. A Day at the Zoo includes parents and siblings and is provided by the Columbus Zoo to the children at the Dowd Education Center. The summer program provides an opportunity for the children to maintain grade level, and in some cases, advance. Academic activities focus on math skills, reading, creative writing, and art. In addition to these academic activities the Dowd Education Center has: a vegetable garden that helps children learn how to grow their own vegetables; a recreation program to improve their physical fitness; nutrition classes to help them learn how to choose healthier foods; two meals and two snacks a day; and and often a week-long science project provided by Otterbein University education students. |
